Tony Horton Talks Squats with Plyometric and Weighted Variations

Tony Horton walks you through how to do a proper squat without hurting your knees! Use the human body, mother earth, Sir Isaac Newton’s law of gravity and you can squat yourself into fitness!

Although he doesn’t describe it here in detail, Tony Horton remarks on the importance of hip flexion and hip extension involvement before he introduces a variety of squats. If the dominant work of a squat involves knee flexion and extension, you are probably going to hurt your knees. If more drive comes from action at the hips, you are moving more functionally correct, and you may take stress (pain) away from your knees.

Tony Horton or Anthony Sawyer “Tony” Horton, Jr. (born July 2, 1958) is an American fitness trainer best known for the boot camp style P90X home fitness program available on DVD.

P90X, or Power 90 Extreme, is a commercial home exercise regimen (think informercial) created by Tony Horton. PX90 is known for a high level of intensity, which has sometimes been criticized.

The program evolved from an initial program called “Power 90”, and is designed to take 90 days. P90X consists of training utilizing cross-training and periodization, combined with a nutrition and dietary supplement plan.

Horton was raised in Trumbull, Connecticut, and attended the University of Rhode Island. He moved to Los Angeles with the intention of becoming an actor, and also performed as a stand-up comedian.

During the early 1980s, Horton became a personal trainer and established his business, ASH Fitness (based on the initials of his given name), in Santa Monica.
