Dr. Drew Book: “Mirror Effect” Hunger for Celebrity, Wide-Ranging Psychological Dysfunction

Dr. Drew Pinsky has co-authored “The Mirror Effect” with Dr. Mark S. Young — publishing their striking study of narcissism among celebrities. The Celebrity Rehab host and addiction specialist (Dr. Drew) and business/entertainment expert (Dr. Young) discovered that a high proportion of celebrities suffer from traits associated with clinical narcissism—including vanity, exhibitionism, entitlement, exploitativeness, self-sufficiency, authority, and superiority.

The authors warn that in the last decade, the entertainment industry has changed dramatically and dangerously. Not only are stars hurting themselves, as exemplified by the daily dose of celebrity bad behavior and crash and burn news (DUI’s, drug overdoses and reality-TV presentations); the public consumption is affecting vulnerable people who mirror the celebrity traits in their own behavior.

The book explores how YouTube, online social networks such as Facebook and Myspace, and personal blogs offer the dangers of instant celebrity to the most vulnerable of citizens in America.

The book also offers distinct examples of stars like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Amy Winehouse and media enablers, such as TMZ, Perez Hilton, and Gawker, have changed the definition of “normal behavior.”

The Mirror Effect raises important questions about our changing culture—and provides insights for parents, young people, and anyone who wonders what celebrity culture is doing to America.

The Mirror Effect: How Celebrity Narcissism Is Seducing America was made available on Amazon on March 17, 2009.

Roger Clemens Posts YouTube Video with Denial of Steroid Use and Denial of Growth Hormone Use (Partial Transcript and Comments Sample)

I’m almost numb to some of these suggestions that I would even use steroids …

“Let me be clear, the answer is no. I did not use steroids, or human growth hormone and I’ve never done so,” Clemens said. “I did not provide Brian McNamee with any drugs to inject in to my body. Brian McNamee did not inject steroids or Human Growth Hormones into my body either when I played in Toronto for the Blue Jays or the New York Yankees. This report is simply not true.” Clemens added that he will sit down with Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes and answer his questions. Clemens says he is angry and that the charges are “hurtful.” He says he is thankful for his talent in his career and blessings in the spirit of the holiday.

George Mitchell, a director of the Boston Red Sox and a former Senate majority leader, wrote in his report that former Toronto and New York Yankees strength coach Brian McNamee said he injected Clemens with steroids in 1998 while with the Blue Jays, and in 2000 and 2001 while with the Yankees. Brian McNamee also claimed he injected Roger Clemens with Human Growth Hormone in 2000.

Brian McNamee is a sports trainer, most notably formerly employed by Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, and Chuck Knoblauch. A former strength coach for the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays, McNamee allegedly helped players acquire performance-enhancing drugs, including steroids, amphetamines and human growth hormone. McNamee told the Mitchell Commission that he began injecting Roger Clemens with steroids in 1998, and that he continued to provide steroids through 2001.

In 2006, a poll of 32 ESPN analysts named Clemens the greatest living pitcher. Clemens has seven Cy Young Awards, two more than any other pitcher.

Comment/responses weigh in negatively for the seven-time Cy Young winner.

A series of comment responses accuse Clemens of lying …

“He is a huge taint.”

You are a LIAR
You are a CHEATER

You should be BANNED FOR LIFE!!!

You will forever be known as Fraudger Clemens.
Shame really. Just tell the truth

Yes, he’s gifted and deserves all the money he can get, but he also deserves all the ridicule if he cheated.

Why did Roger write checks then? How does he explained the canceled checks?

Roger has seen how Bonds keeps up the denial and he’s going to use the same approach. Deny..deny…deny (also used by Bill Clinton and Martha Stewert..but Bill and Martha got caught).

Some are supportive …

I know this whole incident sucks for you. According to your video, it is undeserved. I tend to agree that the repercussions from this is undeserved. I support you and your family through this. I am not a Red Sox or Yankees fan. I think the baseball powers that be (the commish and all the sports writers) need to get down off their high horse and look in the mirror.

guilty until innocent…brought to you by Senator (and BOS RED SOX LEGAL CONSULTANT GEORGE) MITCHELL…nice try Bos
ROG IS THE BEST OF ALL TIME
AND GOING IN A YANK!!!!

YOU ARE A YANKEE and a HALL OF FAMER
BOS [Boston Red Sox] HATES YOU…CANT YOU SEE THAT…MICTHELL IS THE RED SOX”S LEGAL CONSULTANT…

Roddy White, Alge Crumpier, DeAngelo Hall, Chris Houston Fined for Michael Vick Tribute

Roddy White, Alge Crumpier, DeAngelo Hall, and Chris Houston were fined by the NFL for violating uniform regulations with tributes to Michael Vick during last week’s Monday Night Football game.

Michael Vick, Atlanta’s suspended Pro Bowl quarterback, was sentenced to 23 months in prison on federal dogfighting charges the morning of Dec. 10. The Falcons played at home against New Orleans that night and lost 34-14.

After scoring a touchdown, White displayed a “Free Mike Vick” T-shirt under his jersey.

He, along with tight end Alge Crumpler and cornerbacks DeAngelo Hall and Chris Houston, were fined $10,000 each. Crumpler, Hall and Houston all wore black eye strips with written tributes to Vick, which the NFL describes as “displaying an unauthorized personal message.”

Falcons Wide receiver Joe Horn was fined $7,500 for pulling up White’s jersey to show the black T-shirt with white, handwritten lettering.

DeAngelo Hall also had a poster of Vick on the field during pre-game introductions.

Oscar de la Hoya! Are Photos with Scores Stripper Milana Dravnel Real?

What’s Up with Your Cross-Dressin’ Boy Oscar de la Hoya? With the capabilities of photo-editing software these days, we may never know if photos that emerged in September 2007 are edited (“photoshopped”) or if they are authentic.

On Fox News Thursday afternoon Neil Cavuto interviewed “smoking hot” Milana Dravnel, 22, and Salvatore Strazzullo, her fast-talking lawyer, about a lawsuit that stated that Dravnel’s image has been tarnished and that she was portrayed as a liar by the press. All this happened after Milana Dravnel sold compromising photos of Oscar De La Hoya in September 2007 to a website for $70,000. Then she recanted the photos and her claim that she had a relationship with Oscar de la Hoya. Dravnel’s lawsuit claims that she was forced to recant to the New York Daily News after being told by De La Hoya’s attorney, Stephen Espinoza, that FBI detectives “were interested in speaking” to her. Dravnel agreed to recant previous statements about the photos, which showed Oscar De La Hoya dressed in women’s underwear;  to recant previous statements about her relationship with De La Hoya, and to not sell any other photographs.

A YouTube video opines the photos are real and suggests proof by comparing known, authentic photographs of Oscar de la Hoya with the alleged real photos in women’s underwear. Milana Dravnel’s attorney Salvatore Strazullo claims that Dravnel took photos of Oscar de la Hoya in women’s dress during a May 17, 2007 visit to the Ritz-Carlton in Philadelphia.

During the FOX NEWS interview, Milana, appearing emotionally snakebitten, said her relationship with Oscar de la Hoya was not sexual. Milana and her attorney said they are seeking $100 million in damages, claiming fraud, defamation and infliction of emotional distress, which includes punitive damages. Cavuto asked Milana if it wasn’t Oscar de la Hoya that had the damaged reputation.

Strazzullo told The LA Times that Dravnel was De La Hoya’s mistress from January 2006 until May of 2007, but that De La Hoya ended the relationship with Dravnel because “he’s a married man who’s regarded very highly, with this perfect image.” Apparently Dravnel met de la Hoya while dancing at Scores West on 28th Street in Manhattan.

Oscar de la Hoya — nicknamed the Golden Boy — is an Mexican American/Chicano boxer who won a gold medal for the United States Boxing Team at the Barcelona Olympic Games.  De La Hoya became Ring Magazine’s “Fighter of the Year” in 1995 and Ring Magazine’s best “Pound for Pound” fighter in the world in 1997. His fights throughout his entire career have generated a total of almost half a billion dollars in sales alone. De La Hoya defeated over a dozen world champions and has won 6 world titles. De La Hoya’s amateur career included 223 wins, 163 by way of knockout and only 5 losses. He won the United States only boxing gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics, knocking down his opponent, a win which he dedicated to his deceased mother.

Barry Bonds Record Home Run Hitter and Alleged Steroid Abuser and Denier

On November 15, 2007, Bonds was indicted on federal charges and faces four counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice. We know Bonds denied that he ever took steroids, we know trainer Greg Anderson plead guilty to conspiracy to distribute steroids and to money laundering while distributing steroids to other players, and we know Greg Anderson was released from prison the same day (November 15) that Barry Bonds was indicted.

In 2003, Bonds was a key character in a scandal when trainer Greg Anderson of the Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative (BALCO), Bonds’ trainer since 2000, was indicted by a federal grand jury in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California and charged with supplying anabolic steroids to athletes, including a number of baseball players. Anderson refused to testify and was found in contempt of court on July 5, 2006 for refusing to testify before a grand jury investigating perjury charges against Barry Bonds.  Anderson was released when the grand jury’s term expired without indicting Bonds. He was immediately subpoenaed for a new case and was again found in contempt of court and sentenced to prison on August 28, 2006. On November 15th, 2007, a federal judge ordered his release. The same day Barry Bonds was indicted on 4 counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice.

Bond’s association with Anderson led to speculation that Bonds had used performance-enhancing drugs during a time when there was no mandatory testing in Major League Baseball. Bonds declared his innocence, attributing his changed physique and increased power to a strict regimen of bodybuilding, diet and legitimate supplements.

During grand jury testimony on December 4, 2003 — which was later found to be obtained through an illegal leak to the San Francisco Chronicle by Troy Ellerman, a defense lawyer for Victor Conte,  founder and president of Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative (BALCO), a controversial sports nutrition center in Burlingame, California. The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) says BALCO developed the banned steroid tetrahydrogestrinone (THG) with bodybuilding chemist Patrick Arnold. The leak was published almost a year later, on December 3, 2004. Leaking a grand jury testimony is a felony, to which Ellerman pleaded guilty to on February 14, 2007. In the leak Bonds said Anderson gave him a rubbing balm and a liquid substance that Anderson said was arthritis cream and flaxseed oil, respectively. The prosecutors contended that what Bonds was actually given was “the cream” and “the clear”, which are both forms of the designer steroid THG.

In August 2005, all four defendants in the BALCO steroid scandal trial, including Anderson, struck deals with federal prosecutors that did not require them to reveal names of athletes who may have used banned drugs.

Athletic Hall of Shame

Welcome to modern professional sports and to its trickle down effects: DUI’s, robbery, gun charges assaults, sexual harassment, rape, dog fighting, brawling, gambling, steroid use and blood doping. To meet the standards of the Exercise-Reports.com Hall of Shame, an athlete, coach, or entire team must be in the news for committing a crime or other violation or uncivil act or be involved in a compromising situation.

Fans gripe, but keep opening their wallets.

Just remember individuals are not officially guilty unless proven guilty in a court of law. The purpose is not to embarrass the subject, but to learn how to avoid mistakes and how to avoid the traps that sometimes go along with success.
