A six-year-old girl was hospitalized after she sat on an open drain in a swimming pool at the Minneapolis Golf Club in St. Louis Park [MAP/SAT]. and a powerful suction pump tore out part of her intestinal tract and eventually lost several feet of her intestine.

Abigail Taylor was severely injured Tuesday, July 3, 2007, when she sat over an open drain hole in a wading pool. Abigail Taylor was listed in serious condition at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis. The young girl was conscious and in in pain. She faces a series of surgeries with uncertain results.

Lawmakers are considering legislation that would require changes in pool drainage design, including change from a single powerful drain to multiple drains with less powerful suction.
