Benefits of Sex

Sex – claims for the physiological benefits of sexual activity.

As research confirms time and time again, good sex in a healthy, stable, monogamous relationship can only better our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being.

Body composition, weight loss and weight control. Each person can burn  200 calories or more during 30 minutes of sex. The sexual act conditions strength, flexibility, muscle tone, and cardiovascular conditioning. The action that involves rhythmic pelvic tilting is especially good for the core muscles (the abdominal muscles and spinal muscles). Flexibility is also improved as positions are held. Some isometric and weight resistance action is also performed during sexual activity.

Prolonged sexual activity also has cardiovascular benefits.

Sex has been shown to offer migraine and menstrual cramp relief, as well as alleviate chronic back pain thanks to the endorphins and corticosteroids released during sexual arousal and orgasm.

Sex helps the way we respond to stress, increasing levels of oxytocin and stimulating feelings of warmth and relaxation. The quality of the sexual response also helps people monitor their physical and mental stress and physiological status.

Sex has also been associated with improved immunity.

Sex helps self-esteem and intimacy, especially when sex is consistent and involves mutual pleasure. Sex causes a surge in oxytocin at orgasm and  stimulates feelings of affection, intimacy, and closeness.

Sex releases endorphins during arousal and climax that can relieve depression and anxiety, and increase vibrancy. Sex improves overall attitude toward life and relationships. One study even concluded that components of semen which are absorbed through the vagina and enter the bloodstream may antagonize depressive symptoms.

Sex can be beneficial, spiritually, and lead to a better quality of life and a stronger spiritual relationship with your partner.

Sex, including masturbation, helps sleep and fights off insomnia.

Sex keeps you looking and feeling younger and, according to some research, may lead to shiny hair, a glowing complexion and bright eyes, mostly due to the increase secretion of the hormone DHEA (dehydroepiandrostone).

Research shows that there is a significant relationship between frequency of orgasm and risk of death, especially with men. Men who orgasm two times a week have a 50 percent lower chance of mortality than those who climax one time per month.

Decreased risk of breast cancer. One study of women who had never given birth found that an increased frequency of sexual intercourse was correlated with a decrease in the incidence of breast cancer.

Reproductive system health benefits: Sex may decrease a man’s risk of prostate cancer, and a woman’s risk of endometriosis. Sexual activity can also improve fertility in women by regulating menstrual patterns.

Circumcision: Protection from AIDS/HIV, Syphilis, Chancroid, Penile and Prostate Cancer, Phimosis, Thrush

Although circumcision does not offer 100% protection, it does provided significant risk reduction of health-related problems related to sexually transmitted disease. Differences exist between hetersosexual sex and homosexual sexual activity. Other risk factors are also important besides circumcision.

Circumcision of males represents a surgical “vaccine” against a wide variety of infections, adverse medical conditions and potentially fatal diseases over their lifetime, and also protects their sexual partners. In experienced hands, this common, inexpensive procedure is very safe, can be pain-free and can be performed at any age. The benefits vastly outweigh risks. The enormous public health benefits include protection from urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted HIV, HPV, syphilis and chancroid, penile and prostate cancer, phimosis (a condition where the foreskin cannot be fully retracted from the head of the penis), thrush (fungal infection affecting the mouth or vagina), and inflammatory dermatoses. In relation to women, circumcision of the male partner provides substantial protection from cervical cancer and chlamydia. Circumcision has socio-sexual benefits and reduces sexual problems with age. It has no adverse effect on penile sensitivity, function, or sensation during sexual arousal. Most women prefer the circumcised penis for appearance, hygiene and sex. Given the convincing epidemiological evidence and biological support, routine circumcision should be highly recommended by all health professionals.

Little scientific evidence of adverse effects on sexual, psychological, or emotional health was found by researchers; but, surgical risks associated with circumcision, such as bleeding, penile injury, and local infection, and the consequences of pain experienced with neonatal circumcision are valid concerns.

Important Findings of Circumcision Related to HIV/AIDS
One African study found no seroconversions (HIV negative to HIV positive status) among 50 circumcised male partners in heterosexual relationships. In the study in rural Uganda, researchers examined the influence of viral load in relation to other risk factors for the heterosexual transmission of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). In a community-based study of 15,127 persons in a rural district of Uganda, researchers identified 415 couples in which one partner was HIV-1-positive and one was initially HIV-1-negative (a sero-discordant couple) and followed them prospectively for up to 30 months. The incidence of HIV-1 infection per 100 person-years among the initially seronegative partners was examined in relation to behavioral and biologic variables.

The male partner was HIV-1-positive in 228 couples, and the female partner was HIV-1-positive in 187 couples. Ninety of the 415 initially HIV-1-negative partners seroconverted (incidence, 11.8 per 100 person-years). The rate of male-to-female transmission was not significantly different from the rate of female-to-male transmission (12.0 per 100 person-years vs. 11.6 per 100 person-years). The incidence of seroconversion was highest among the partners who were 15 to 19 years of age (15.3 per 100 person-years). The incidence was 16.7 per 100 person-years among 137 uncircumcised male partners, whereas there were no seroconversions among the 50 circumcised male partners (P<0.001). The mean serum HIV-1 RNA level was significantly higher among HIV-1-positive subjects whose partners seroconverted than among those whose partners did not seroconvert (90,254 copies per milliliter vs. 38,029 copies per milliliter, P=0.01). There were no instances of transmission among the 51 subjects with serum HIV-1 RNA levels of less than 1500 copies per milliliter; there was a significant dose-response relation of increased transmission with increasing viral load. In multivariate analyses of log-transformed HIV-1 RNA levels, each log increment in the viral load was associated with a rate ratio of 2.45 for seroconversion (95 percent confidence interval, 1.85 to 3.26).

The researchers concluded that viral load is the chief predictor of the risk of heterosexual transmission of HIV-1, and transmission is rare among persons with levels of less than 1500 copies of HIV-1 RNA per milliliter.

Another study in three U.S. cities of homosexual black and Latino men who have sex with men found no evidence that circumcision offered protection against HIV infection.

There is a biological rationale that the increase surface area of the uncircumcised foreskin increases risk of HIV infection due to the high density of HIV target cells and lack of keratinization of the inner mucosal surface of the foreskin.

One researcher reviewed medical literature to study AIDS and hetersosexual anal intercourse and suggested the following: (1) anal coitus carries a greater risk to women than does vaginal intercourse; (2) it is probable, but unknown whether women having receptive anal intercourse with bisexual men are at a greater risk than those with heterosexual partners; and (3) female-to-male transmission of HIV is not considered as likely in Western countries as is male-to-male transmission.

Roger Clemens Posts YouTube Video with Denial of Steroid Use and Denial of Growth Hormone Use (Partial Transcript and Comments Sample)

I’m almost numb to some of these suggestions that I would even use steroids …

“Let me be clear, the answer is no. I did not use steroids, or human growth hormone and I’ve never done so,” Clemens said. “I did not provide Brian McNamee with any drugs to inject in to my body. Brian McNamee did not inject steroids or Human Growth Hormones into my body either when I played in Toronto for the Blue Jays or the New York Yankees. This report is simply not true.” Clemens added that he will sit down with Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes and answer his questions. Clemens says he is angry and that the charges are “hurtful.” He says he is thankful for his talent in his career and blessings in the spirit of the holiday.

George Mitchell, a director of the Boston Red Sox and a former Senate majority leader, wrote in his report that former Toronto and New York Yankees strength coach Brian McNamee said he injected Clemens with steroids in 1998 while with the Blue Jays, and in 2000 and 2001 while with the Yankees. Brian McNamee also claimed he injected Roger Clemens with Human Growth Hormone in 2000.

Brian McNamee is a sports trainer, most notably formerly employed by Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, and Chuck Knoblauch. A former strength coach for the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays, McNamee allegedly helped players acquire performance-enhancing drugs, including steroids, amphetamines and human growth hormone. McNamee told the Mitchell Commission that he began injecting Roger Clemens with steroids in 1998, and that he continued to provide steroids through 2001.

In 2006, a poll of 32 ESPN analysts named Clemens the greatest living pitcher. Clemens has seven Cy Young Awards, two more than any other pitcher.

Comment/responses weigh in negatively for the seven-time Cy Young winner.

A series of comment responses accuse Clemens of lying …

“He is a huge taint.”

You are a LIAR
You are a CHEATER

You should be BANNED FOR LIFE!!!

You will forever be known as Fraudger Clemens.
Shame really. Just tell the truth

Yes, he’s gifted and deserves all the money he can get, but he also deserves all the ridicule if he cheated.

Why did Roger write checks then? How does he explained the canceled checks?

Roger has seen how Bonds keeps up the denial and he’s going to use the same approach. Deny..deny…deny (also used by Bill Clinton and Martha Stewert..but Bill and Martha got caught).

Some are supportive …

I know this whole incident sucks for you. According to your video, it is undeserved. I tend to agree that the repercussions from this is undeserved. I support you and your family through this. I am not a Red Sox or Yankees fan. I think the baseball powers that be (the commish and all the sports writers) need to get down off their high horse and look in the mirror.

guilty until innocent…brought to you by Senator (and BOS RED SOX LEGAL CONSULTANT GEORGE) MITCHELL…nice try Bos
ROG IS THE BEST OF ALL TIME
AND GOING IN A YANK!!!!

YOU ARE A YANKEE and a HALL OF FAMER
BOS [Boston Red Sox] HATES YOU…CANT YOU SEE THAT…MICTHELL IS THE RED SOX”S LEGAL CONSULTANT…

FBI Biometrics: $1 Billion Database of Images of Faces, Fingerprints, Palm Patterns, Criminal History

The FBI is building the world’s largest computer database of peoples’ physical characteristics, a project that would give the government unprecedented abilities to identify individuals in the United States and beyond.

At the West Virginia University Center for Identification Technology Research (CITeR), 45 minutes north of the FBI’s biometric facility in Clarksburg, researchers are working on capturing images of people’s irises at distances up to 15 feet, and of faces from as far away as 200 yards. Those researchers will be doing biometric research for the FBI.

Next Generation Identification
The Next Generation database is intended to “fuse” fingerprint, face, iris and palm matching capabilities by 2013.

American Civil Liberties Union concerned, according to Barry Steinhardt, Director of the Technology and Liberty Project of the American Civil Liberties Union:
“It’s going to be an essential component of tracking. It’s enabling the Always On Surveillance Society.”

Roddy White, Alge Crumpier, DeAngelo Hall, Chris Houston Fined for Michael Vick Tribute

Roddy White, Alge Crumpier, DeAngelo Hall, and Chris Houston were fined by the NFL for violating uniform regulations with tributes to Michael Vick during last week’s Monday Night Football game.

Michael Vick, Atlanta’s suspended Pro Bowl quarterback, was sentenced to 23 months in prison on federal dogfighting charges the morning of Dec. 10. The Falcons played at home against New Orleans that night and lost 34-14.

After scoring a touchdown, White displayed a “Free Mike Vick” T-shirt under his jersey.

He, along with tight end Alge Crumpler and cornerbacks DeAngelo Hall and Chris Houston, were fined $10,000 each. Crumpler, Hall and Houston all wore black eye strips with written tributes to Vick, which the NFL describes as “displaying an unauthorized personal message.”

Falcons Wide receiver Joe Horn was fined $7,500 for pulling up White’s jersey to show the black T-shirt with white, handwritten lettering.

DeAngelo Hall also had a poster of Vick on the field during pre-game introductions.
